Performing Arts Lessons in Portsmouth, Hampshire, UK
Becki has always found a joy from helping others learn how to better their skills, so it is no surprise that she has always wanted to be a teacher. With 5 years of professional vocal training, and at least 15 years of dance training, as well as experience in performing on stage, screen and at various events, Becki has decided to take her teaching further than just vocals, which she has now been teaching for over two years.
OmniArts Performing School
Becki is starting up a community performance school in Portsmouth, Hampshire area, which is set to start in April 2013. The basic premise behind this is that the group will be “for the performers, by the performers” giving it a real community aspect, and meaning every single member gets to decide on the shows they perform, and who plays which characters. The aim of the group will be to instruct the members in singing, acting and dancing as well as their own organisational and entrepreneurial skills through organising and marketing each show with the help of the three mentors - Becki, Corinna and Nicole.
The initial plan is to put on two big shows a year, at larger local theatres, and two talent shows, at smaller local theatres, plus opportunities for smaller street and screen performances throughout the year too. The number of shows put on each year also has the potential to grow as the members see fit. A "committee" will be selected by all the members of the group at the beginning of each show, and everyone will have a different role in promoting and organising it, as well as actually being in the show.
The idea behind the "community" side of the theatre group is that it accept anyone who wants to take part, regardless of age, size, shape or disability. There will be an audition for each person hoping to join, and there will probably be two age groups (for example, 5 - 11 and 12 & up) who come together for shows however have separate rehearsal meetings for the most part.
The Performing School will also allow local students a chance at some work experience, as Becki is hoping to be able to offer local photographers, filmographers, set builders, make-up and hair artists, costumes designers, graphic designers and so on a chance to build their portfolio by working on each show OmniArts produces.
Becki is also hoping to be able to expand the group outside of theatres, and give the members of the group the opportunity to take part in on screen performances, and also the chance to do flash mob and street performing.
